Earthquake in Yushu in the Tibetan region Kham.
Rotterdam, 21 April 2010
Last week we heard the terrible news about the strong earthquake in Yushu in the Tibetan region of Kham. More than 2000 were killed. Yushu is about two hundred kilometers from Golog, where we have our activities. Among the victims are two cousins of lama Jigmé Namgyal, the founder of our Golog Support Foundation. Via telephone we are distant witnesses of these sad facts: the deaths and wounded, people who lost limbs, or eyes; parted families. These are just a few examples of the intense suffering people have to endure.
With admiration we hear about those Tibetans who travel several hundred kilometers by foot to help the victims. Among them were a number of our friends from Golog with whom we have been closely co-operating during the past few years. From them we receive first hand information.
The local population feels disoriented and lost. They have to face extremely cold weather and snowstorms. On top of that, we received reports about the authorities, who have blocked roads, which hinders the inflow of help transports.
We try to do everything within our power to offer the affected people a helping hand. Your financial support is urgently needed to make this possible. We need money to offer help with housing, basic needs, medication, and the repair of houses. Lama Jigmé is in close and direct contact with the region and has full influence on the way money is spent. This is a guarantee that 100% of the money reaches the people who most need it.

Financial support Golog Child Fund
During 2009 the Golod Child Fund has transfered a total of € 3500 to our people in Golog; this includes some donations lama Jigmé received directly. We thank all our donators and hope to continue our activities in 2010, including the start of a second group of children.
First Healthcare action in Golog
During the summer of 2009 we made the financial means available for a local, Tibetan doctor to travel around and visit places where in that period many nomads gather. With a car, Tibetan medication and some local assistence, the doctor provided basic medical help to 1840 individuals. The costs were a few euros per patient, including medication.

Situation China/Golog (Last update 25 May 2008)
At this moment we have limited contacts with the people in our region. Our new teachers are waiting to travel to Golog as soon as they can acces the region.
Our health care activities are still in a prelimitary phase; once in the operational phase, the activities will be executed by local people.
Our fund raising activities will of course continue.
Update 1 July 2008: The Chinese authorities have opened the region for tourists; only limited visa are possible. This is a hopeful sign.
